Having started training in 1986, Jeremy has well over 20 years experience in a wide variety of settings, including as a full time therapist in the National Health Service. He currently works in the NHS, private practice (Harley Street/Brighton) and higher education. He also teaches a one year CBT course to NHS therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. He is the chair of a large Counselling and Psychotherapy organisation, and the director of another.
Jeremy specialises in CBT in Brighton, the integration of CBT with other approaches, and the effective use of evidence-based practice. He also runs a therapy service network specialising in the evidence-based therapies.
Jeremy has considerable experience in working with people younger people [above the age of 14], drug users, post trauma work as well the range of anxiety disorders, depression and other, more enduring, mental health problems.
Jeremy has a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. He also has Post-Graduate qualifications in the major approaches to counselling, (including in CBT), and clinical supervision, and is currently completing another Masters Degree, in Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy. This focuses on the evidence based (best proven) therapies, which he also teaches. He has published articles in the field of psychotherapy.
He has undertaken training directly from the leading professors & clinicians in the UK for CBT in the common mental health problems, such as Paul Salkovskis, David Clark, Anke Ehlers and Melanie Fennell. Jeremy is also training in the United States world pioneers of CBT, Aaron and Judith Beck.
He has senior Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling (MBACP [Snr. Accred.]), is accreditated with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) for his CBT work.
If you are looking around for a CBT therapist, please do ask other people if they are accredited by the BABCP, as it is this qualification from that association that it is important to look out for, and will distinguish a CBT therapist with a specific, and higher, level of training. Please be cautions of phrases such as 'CBT Techniques' or 'CBT Approach' as, although other therapists may be helpful, if you want CBT you need to look for an Accredited CBT psychotherapist, please feel confident to ask that directly.
The initial consultation usually lasts 50 minutes. There will be an opportunity to discuss what you hope to achieve in therapy and the frequency and number of sessions required.
£50 per 50 minute session in Brighton, or we can have sessions by phone or email, if you have difficulty in coming to the sessions for any reason.
Follow-up sessions, longer meetings or travelling time (if home sessions are required) are charged pro rata. Concessions are available. Please ask.
